The Wiregrass Children's Home offers a safe haven for hurting, neglected
and abused children throughout the Wiregrass region of South Alabama. Our
mission is to provide a happy, loving and secure Christian environment -
a place for healing - for these special children while they are in our
care. The Wiregrass Children's Home is more than
just a house where children are sent when no one in their life now seems to
care. It is a Christian home where we strive to make a difference in  the
bruised, troubled lives of each child entrusted to us. A home where children
find stability, security, and love. We strive to instill Christian values
that will have a life-long impact while meeting the child's daily physical,
spiritual, and emotional needs. Child abuse and neglect are equal opportunity destroyers. These evils do not know a child's sex or race, where the child comes from, or a child's religion or income level.. |

There were 1,048,062 proven cases
of child abuse and neglect in 1998, the most recent year from which data is
available. That is 1 of every 13 children ages 2 to 18. According to the
National Committee to Prevent Child Abuse, a child is abused every 10 seconds.
The Department of Justice found that more children die each year as a result of
child abuse than from accidental falls, drowning, choking on food, fires in the
home, or suffocation. On average, 40,000 incidents of child abuse and neglect
are reported annually in the State of Alabama. A portion of these children fall
into the realm of care of the Wiregrass Children's Home. Our home is
often the first step in restoring these hurting children's lives. Child abuse
and neglect, like a thief, can only steal, kill and destroy. We, at the
Wiregrass Children's Home, want all children to have LIFE, and to
have it more abundantly!
